Polyurethane Foam

Open cell polyurethane foam is a widely accepted raw material source used in the production of sound absorption products.    However, the material is not Class A fire rated according to the standards set forth by the ASTM E84 Flame and Smoke Density test.    If you are considering this material for use in a public building, or near high heat or open flame environments, do not.    We recommend you consider alternative NetWell products made from melamine foam or fiberglass, which are both class A fire rated and meet the ASTM E84 standards.   Note that any polyurethane foam product you find here on this website can also be made from class A fire rated melamine foam.   NetWell Noise Control will not be held liable for any misuse of any polyurethane foam product.

Open cell polyurethane foam does meet a UL94 HF-1 test.    This is a test conducted to determine the self extinguishability of a material.   In essence, the foam is able to self extinguish within two seconds when ignited, so long as the flame is not fanned.   The material also meets a motor vehicle safety standard called the MSVV 302 for fire safety.

Note:   A warning to those googling the internet.   There are competitive suppliers of acoustic foam online that market their material as "fire retardant".   Be wary of the language, this is still open cell polyurethane foam that is NOT class A fire rated and should not be used in public buildings.    "Fire Retardant" does not mean "Fire Proof" or "Class A" fire approved.    Your NetWell advantage is that we do offer absorption alternatives to foam for those treatments that require it.
