Exposed Frame With Green Glue
Green Glue is a visco-elastic material that is applied as a constrained layer between two sheets of drywall to dampen sound vibration. In sound isolation applications, damping has one broad effect - it works to eliminate stored energy. This broad effect can be broken down into two basic effects that describe all of the benefits a product like Green Glue can supply. The first of these is the reduction of resonance problems. The second of these is the dissipation of vibration (sound) as it travels through a structure.
Show me Green Glue
Green Glue can negate your need to trigger a disconnection in your wall surface, but will require you to double sheet rock your wall. The material is applied as a constrained layer between two sheets of drywall with the use of a caulking gun. As sound energy attempts to transmit through your finished surface, Green Glue serves to dampen the walls ability to accept vibration and destroys the transmitting noise. Your assembly sequence is illustrated here:
Increase the Density
Treating your existing exposed frame with a Green Glue treatment will help dampen noise bleeding out through your walls. For maximum effect, we recommend you compliment the treatment by first stapling dB-Bloc direct to your exposed frame prior to the Green Glue application. The density of dB-Bloc will serve to further deaden your wall's ability to transmit sound, triggering your maximum values for sound isolation. Your treatment sequence is illustrated here:
