Tips
First, click on the Walls section of this Applications Guide and review the assembly treatments required to effectively block noise from bleeding through your common walls, ceilings or floors. dB-Bloc is the mass loaded vinyl material used as a membrane to block noise through common walls or ceilings, while the Impacta line of underlayments can help control the amount of noise bleeding down through a floor to the room below.
For foot noise bleeding down through a floor, consider the floor underlayment series of products profiled here in our Product Bin and reviewed in the Floor section of this Applications Guide.
Note that regardless of your treatment, any common rooms that share common structure will deliver noise back and forth through openings that include pipes, vents, outlet plates, light canisters, exhaust fans, windows, doors and more. You will never be able to block 100% of your noise. Set your expectation levels accordingly, and be satisfied if your treatment delivers a 90% drop in sound.
