Ceiling Clouds Control Noise in a Multipurpose Room

The Problem

The United Methodist Church in Cheyenne, WY hosts multiple events in their multipurpose room.   From classroom sessions to music practice, guest speakers, wedding receptions, social luncheons and the like, the room was defined by the hard reflective surfaces typically found in this cafeteria style room.    The problem is a common one.   The echoes of the sounds and voices in the room have little opportunity to be absorbed or slowed, which in turn delivers competing background noises that force original sounds, new conversations, and vocals to raise over the level of this background noise.   As a result, the room is filled with so much booming echo that it is user unfriendly.

Ceiling Clouds Absorb Echo and Deliver Greater Clarity to Original Sound

The Treatment

Multipurpose Rooms are an ideal target for a Ceiling Cloud treatment.   Clouds are class A fire rated, decorative architectural sound panels that "float" mechanically from the ceiling of the room.   This allows you to leave your walls as they are, and so long as the appropriate number of Clouds are introduced into the room, they will serve to capture enough sound wave reflections to effectively control the level of background noise, which in turn will deliver greater clarity to original sound.   To improve the room's acoustic quality, Ceiling Clouds will convert sound wave reflections to kinetic energy, dropping the echoes and restoring the room to normal conversational tones.

Soundproofing With Ceiling Clouds

The Results

By capturing and converting approrpiate levels of sound wave reflections, we reduce echoes down to 2.0 seconds or less, which is the threshold level for human ear.    Most rooms, untreated for sound control, will carry echoes for up to 10 seconds before they expire on their own.   Ceiling Clouds collapse this standing reverberation time, which in turn makes the room much more user friendly.    Following the completion of the Cloud installation, the United Methodist Church was able to fill the room with people who could now converse in normal conversational tones.    No longer was their competition between conversations, or the need to raise voices over the level of background noise.

"We have received many compliments on the appearance of NetWell's Ceiling Clouds, most agree that it has improved the physical appearance of the room.    It definitely has changed the level of echo, thank you to NetWell Noise Control!"
